What is Couplings ?
Couplings are mechanical elements that Ã¢â‚¬ËœcouplesÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ two drive elements which enables motion to be transferred from one element to another. The drive elements are normally shafts. We tend to see lot of applications of the couplings mainly in the automobiles, for example the drive shaft which connects the engine and the rear axle in a bus or any automobile is connected by means of a universal joint.
In order to transmit torque between two shafts that either tend to lie in the same line or slightly misaligned, a coupling is used.
Based on the area of applications there are various types of coupling available. But they are generally categorized in the following varieties
1. Rigid Couplings
2. Flexible Couplings

CAST IRON RIGID MUFF COUPLINGS
Rigid Muff Couplings are widely used where power to be transmitted or driver shaft and driven shaft are in line or coaxial to each other. These types of coupling are made in different material like Cast Iron, Carbon Steel, Aluminum, Stainless Steel etc.
1) Does not mar the shaft
2) Easy to Assemble or Dis-assemble
3) No lubrication or moving parts
4) Suitable for high RPM power transmission due to their higher torque carrying nature.
5) Noiseless working.
For Type DP : From Diameter 100 mm to 300mm , Length 150 mm to 325mm , No. of Bolts : 6,8,10
For Type LN: 60mm to 570 mm , Length 100 mm to 975mm No. of Allen Screw : 8,10,12,14,16,
